1 May

I phoned Sue at Tiger to check exactly what I'd ordered.  Maybe my brain was still in shock when I ordered it from Jim.  Maybe!  Whatever, I couldn't remember what I'd ordered, nor what it was all going to cost.

Sue phoned back and gave Pat (my wife) the final figure which was less than  I expected.  A nice surprise, but worrying, so I dropped Sue a line and asked her to re-check it.   It turns out she'd not included for the fancy carbs.  Oh well.

I've been having a look at other people's build diaries and taken heart from one (www.benskitcar.freeserve.co.uk ) that had photos of his garage before and after clearing out and painting.  Nice job, Ben.  I particularly liked the calendar.  As you say, it's important to know what month it is when you're building a kit car.  I've mentioned to Pat that I'll need a calendar as well.  What's the betting I get one with landscapes and ponies!

I introduced myself to the newsgroup today.  And left a link to this site.  Ian Cassapi has provided details of the exhaust wrap that I fancy putting on Kitkat, so that's another email I need to keep.

Spent a happy half hour designing an email signature that is supposed to look like a Cat.  Still needs work!

Garage sorting day set for the bank holiday weekend.  Before and after photos required.

Went with Phil to Phantom cars near Coventry to check out the GTR that he was thinking of buying.  A quick look at the photos and you'll understand why he's not thinking of buying one anymore--he's bought one.  2.7 litre, Honda V6; automatic cog box; air conditioning and a working (controllable) heater.

One of the photos shows the lump that powers the thing, with the lump that bought it trying to look as though he understands what he is seeing.

I've got to admit the cars are drop dead sexy, but I'm still happy with my purchase.

According to the calendar in the workshop, it's May.  You have to check, don't you?

29 May
Bank Holiday, there's a kit car show at Harrogate, we get rain, hail, sunshine, in fact everything for a fun time - and am I there?  No, I'm at home tarting up the garage.  But it needed it!

A few years ago we had some yellowish paint left over, so we slapped it on the garage walls; my hobby of building and repairing computers resulted in cupboards and drawers full of circuit boards and wires etc; one of the lights had died and I hadn't got round to fixing it; Sam's bike; pictures; re-cycling stuff; boots; footballs; bits of wood; plant pots; roller blades; there's even Shaun the sheep if you look close enough.

I guess just like most people's garage, it had become a dumping ground - and a neglected one at that.

But after three days of hard work, five litres of white paint, two new light fittings, three new thirteen amp sockets, two trips to the dump, and innumerable cups of tea later, you can start to see the difference.

Some carpet tiles rescued whilst on their way to a skip will shortly be cheering up the green deck painted floor.  So it'll be a right little home from home.

Building the cat it here is going to be tight, but I'm now a bit more confident that it will be possible.

And Kitkat arrives four weeks on Saturday!
